That’s what friends are for!
Standing alone against Rei, Neptune is beaten back at every turn. So much so, that Rei is tired of their little game. As Neptune is forced to watch Rei turn her Pong Laser towards Planeptune, the unexpected happens. In this fight, Neptune never truly stood alone. Even Blanc has realized the errors in her investigation. As the Goddesses arrive one by one, Rei is quickly cornered. Still, she refuses to go down alone. After announcing her true intentions of destroying everything in her path, Rei was ready to shatter the world. However, the Goddesses will not allow that to happen. Although it may come with the cost of their own lives, they will gladly save their world. In the aftermath of Rei’s final attack, all the Goddesses were left unconscious. Still, Rei had some fight left in her. Unfortunately for her, not all villains share her end goal. Magiquone plans to one day rule Gamindustri, thus taking out Rei was the natural conclusion. Nonetheless, that’s all she’ll do for now. This battle has brought enough havoc for one day.
In the months that followed, Planeptune had nearly made a full recovery. In order to celebrate the completion of Planeptune’s new Basilicom, Neptune gathered her fellow Goddesses for an important announcement. Ever since signing the Friendship Treaty, Gamindustri has changed for the better. However, this wasn’t the only thing she took note of. They no longer need a treaty to be friends. As they are already all true comrades, she wishes to compete fairly moving forward. Additionally, in times of peace, the goddesses can once again battle one another. Although only in the name of fun.
Story: 7/10
Throughout this anime two major story arcs are told. During the first half we take out Magiquone, then later on we deal with Rei. Their motives are likely something you’ve seen a handful of times, though they held it together well til the end. Moreover, this show truly shined outside of the more serious moments. Nearly every episode contains tons of comedy and the Goddesses just living life. Anyone that’s been a life long gamer will find plenty of fun with this one. As their world is based off gaming technology from our world, there’s references to be found everyone. Even this very last episode heavily featured Pong to defeat Rei.
Art/Animation: 8/10
When I first watched this show, I truly believed every frame was drawn perfectly. This is now my 6th re-watch, and I know that’s far from the truth. Even so, this anime made sure of one thing. The girls were always looking fine. As that is one of the main attractions of this franchise, they got that one down perfectly. Outside of the Goddesses, the fights always maintained a decent quality. It’s nothing too crazy, but more than good enough for the story being told here.
Enjoyment: 10/10
From the very moment I saw the four main Goddesses, I was in love. This was before I ever knew about the anime or games. Since then, I’ve played one of the games and watched the anime many times over. If the initial character designs are enough for you, then I can guarantee this one is well worth it. There’s never a dull moment with Neptune and friends. It’s been a blast working on the media for this show, and I’d do it all over again if possible.
Overall, I’d place this show at a solid 8. As long as you go in with a fun mindset, you’ll get a lot out of this one. Maybe even a few re-watches, too. Anyhow, thanks for playing with us. Enjoy the finale with all your favorite Goddesses!
