Going up!
The longest walk is finally over. They’ve arrived right below Isaac’s core, though Accelerator will use what little energy he has left to get them on top. Everything after that point was left up to Esther. A single thrust of her dagger shall end this entire tragedy. However, she didn’t walk all this way alone. All those that have walked beside her will lend their strength. Even if it’s just to help push her hand forward, it was enough to stop Isaac’s plan. The perfect golem was a short lived dream, after all. Still, the power built up to that point needed an exit point. In the face of city wide destruction, Accelerator stepped up once more. He may not have the power left to stand, but as long as he protects what’s precious to him, then it doesn’t matter in the end. Another trip to the hospital is only par the course.
In the aftermath of this whole arc, everything has nearly returned back to normal. The only true loss were the Hishigata siblings. For all the sins they’ve committed, they’ve been granted eternal rest. As for Esther, she’s simply thanked Accelerator once more before moving on. Her presence among the living is a danger, after all. Regardless, there’s never a boring day in Academy City. It won’t be long before Accelerator is caught back into the mix. If we are granted season 2 one day, then we’re already setup. A new mysterious girl has landed right before Accelerator’s eyes.
Among the two J.C. Staff shows I covered this season, I have to say this one took the cake. The overall strong character art carried this one, though I wouldn’t say the same for the action. That’s never been their strong point, so don’t expect much there. Furthermore, it should be noted that this adaptation truly only needed 8 episodes. The source material covered here is a mere 37 chapters. As such, this led to a number of minor changes and anime original content. However, the original content was a boon here. The source material isn’t that great to begin with. A lot is left open to be changed or interpreted. Additionally, they fixed a major issue the manga has. They made sure to keep Accelerator’s presence felt at all times. This is really still Esther’s story, but Accelerator wasn’t missing half the time.
At the end of the day, I’m happy with a 7/10 with this one. Another chapter in the Index universe is always appreciated. Academy City is big place, and there’s a lot going on at every moment. I’m sure this won’t be the last we see of these characters and many more. Anyhow, the trip to heaven has been canceled once more. Enjoy one last battle with number one!
