Island T.V. Media Review Episode 9

by Yumiko

Welcome to the future.

Setsuna’s cryogenic freeze is over. An untold number of years have past, and now the world is a totally different place. A post-apocalyptic setting is what Setsuna finds himself in. The island is the only safe place left for humanity. Everything outside the island is just a frozen wasteland. Regardless, those living on the island are playing with borrowed time. Maintaining the technology that sustains the island has become a lost art. Once the system breaks down that will be it for humanity. As such, Setsuna’s final objective comes into play. He must find a way to save the world.

There’s quite a few things happening during this episode, so I’ll attempt to break them down. First, Setsuna was awoken by Rinne. This isn’t the Rinne we know, but one of her future descendants. Future Rinne has been tasked with a plan spanning multiple generations. Her goal is to complete a time machine, although time is running out. Those that control the island are doing everything in their power to stay on top. This means either leaving many of the island inhabitants for dead, or slaughtering them without care. Those left for dead are not just going to roll over, though. As seen during this episode, Karen and her group are willing to fight back. Moreover, all 3 of Setsuna’s objectives are now clear to us. The life he must save is Rinne, the person he must kill is the Setsuna found within Rinne’s heart, and lastly he must find away to advert humanity down its doomed path. However, how he plans to do this with just 3 episodes remaining will be interesting to see. I’m rooting for you, Setsuna. Anyhow, ready for your weekly ration? Enjoy the future!

OP: The future also comes with a new opening. Welcome to Never Island.

Episode 9:

ED: We’re also gifted with a new ending, but nothing really stellar here.

The story has taken some interesting turns. Not sure how far the Anime will go, but I know things get quite wild in the VN. I’m mainly just hoping for a solid ending. So far it has been a solid all around watch, though.
