Surely one of them will be useful.
It’s not easy working with a one-trick pony, or any newly introduced party member in general. You just never know what you’re in for. However, for one unlucky main character he’ll have no choice in the matter. His party might be useless, though with a little luck they can always dream big. That’s what counts in the end, right?
